ECR EGTC at the eFTI4EU First Yearly Conference: Paving the Way for Digital Freight

On October 17, 2024, Euro Contrôle Route European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (ECR EGTC) had the privilege of participating in the eFTI4EU First Yearly Conference in Brussels, a milestone event driving the digital transformation of freight transport in the EU. This hybrid event brought together nearly 300 industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders to explore the implementation of the Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) regulation.

Themed “Freight Transport in the Digital Age”, the conference highlighted the opportunities and challenges in fully digitalizing freight operations. Keynote speakers, including Annika Kroon from the European Commission’s DG Move, emphasized the potential of eFTI to not only eliminate paperwork but also become a global standard in logistics.

ECR EGTC's Role in Driving Harmonization and Digitalization in Road Transport

At the conference, Heinz Albert Stumpen, Director of Euro Contrôle Route European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation, provided insights from road transport operations, demonstrating how eFTI could be integrated into transport checks. During the discussions, he emphasized that for eFTI to be successful, it must be both user-friendly and cost-effective, particularly for authorities and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the transport sector.

ECR EGTC remains committed to supporting the harmonization of freight transport across Europe by ensuring that regulatory frameworks, such as eFTI, are practical, easy to implement, and beneficial for all stakeholders.

Moving Forward

ECR EGTC will continue to collaborate with eFTI4EU and other partners to ensure that the future of freight transport is not only digital but also inclusive, benefiting both public authorities and private operators.
